Family / Matrimonial Law
Handling family disputes with care as much as legal skill.
Family disputes are among the most difficult that come before the courts, and they call for care as much as for legal skill. We act for husbands and for wives, for parents and for children's interests, and for the wider family where property is in question, and we work through both the personal law and the criminal law that touch on family matters.
Our practice covers divorce by mutual consent and contested divorce, judicial separation, and restitution of conjugal rights, along with custody and guardianship of children and visitation rights. We handle maintenance and interim maintenance claims under Section 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and under the personal laws, for the spouse or child seeking support and for the party resisting an excessive claim. We act in cases under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 for the aggrieved woman and in defence of those against whom such complaints are made, and in dowry harassment and cruelty complaints under the criminal law on both sides.
We also handle adoption, disputes over matrimonial property and streedhana, the return of gifts and jewellery, recovery of dowry, and transfer petitions where matters are pending in different places. We appear under the Hindu Marriage Act, the Muslim personal law, the Indian Divorce Act, the Special Marriage Act, and the Guardians and Wards Act, before the family courts and civil courts, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, and the Supreme Court of India, including transfer petitions and appeals. Where the parties are willing, we work towards a settlement that spares them a long and bitter contest.
