NRI Legal Services

A single point of contact in Andhra Pradesh for Non Resident Indians managing property and family matters from abroad.

Non Resident Indians often own property or have family matters in Andhra Pradesh that are difficult to manage from abroad. We give them a single point of contact here and act on their instructions while they remain overseas, and we act both for the NRI protecting an interest and against those who have taken advantage of their absence.

Our work covers the drafting and registration of powers of attorney and their cancellation where misused, management and protection of property, action against encroachment, illegal occupation, and fraudulent transfer of the client's land, recovery of possession and mesne profits, partition and settlement of family property, sale and purchase of property from abroad, and title verification and due diligence. On the family side we handle divorce, custody, and maintenance matters involving parties in different countries, along with transfer petitions and the recognition of foreign decrees, and we advise on questions around the repatriation of funds and the tax on property dealings.

Property left unattended is the most common source of trouble for Non Resident Indians. Land in Andhra Pradesh that is not actively managed is vulnerable to encroachment, to fraudulent transfer using forged documents, and to claims by distant relatives. We act swiftly when a client reports that their property has been encroached upon or that a fraudulent transaction has been registered, filing injunctions, criminal complaints, and civil suits as the situation requires.

The power of attorney is the instrument through which most NRIs manage their affairs in India. A well-drafted power of attorney, registered before the appropriate authority, gives the attorney the powers needed to manage the property and no more. Where a power of attorney has been misused — where the attorney has sold property without authority, mortgaged it, or transferred it to a third party — we act to cancel the power, challenge the transaction, and recover the property.

Family matters involving NRIs present particular complexity. A divorce petition filed in India while the other spouse is abroad, a custody dispute where the child has been brought to India or taken out of India, a maintenance claim where the parties are in different jurisdictions — these require an understanding of both Indian law and the rules on jurisdiction and the recognition of foreign orders. We advise on the applicable law, file and defend proceedings in the Indian courts, and coordinate with lawyers abroad where the matter requires it.

We keep in touch across time zones and by whatever means suits the client — video call, email, or WhatsApp — so that distance does not weaken their position. We provide regular updates, act on instructions promptly, and ensure that the client is never left wondering what is happening with their matter. We take cases where needed through the civil and family courts, the revenue authorities, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh at Amaravati, and the Supreme Court of India.

Why SAC Legal

Non Resident Indians need a firm they can trust to act in their absence, without supervision, and with the same care they would bring themselves. We have acted for NRI clients across the United States, the United Kingdom, the Gulf, and Australia in property, family, and succession matters in Andhra Pradesh. We communicate clearly, act promptly, and keep clients informed at every stage. Distance is not an obstacle when the communication is right and the trust is earned.
